Aspen Colorado Trucker Hat: Retro Mountain Embroidered 。This has been in storage for years. Black and adjustable velcro in back. ZG depicts Pitkin County/Aspen . Very Hard to Find! The county stopped issuing ZG plates some six or seven years ago, because it ran out of numbers. A Colorado license plate can have up to seven characters But that hasn’t stopped vehicle owners from paying extra to get ZG – that status symbol of local-hood – on their plates. There’s something about Coloradans and the attention they pay to license plates. Denver columnist Ed Quillen once wrote that state residents revere their car tags \"as a symbol of one’s status as determined by length of residency and political connections in a given location that is indicated in the alphabetic prefix.\" Colorado began issuing license plates in 1913, and in 1932 the state began issuing plates with county identification. Counties were numbered based on their population rank in the 1930 census. The numbers shifted to a two-letter code in 1958, and Pitkin County was a member of the \"Z\" counties, which were the least populated. Summit and Pitkin counties were given ZL and ZG prefixes, for example, but when the mountain populations began to grow, towns like Breckenridge and Aspen ran out of license-plate numbers.
